L’appropriazione dei saperi tecnici fu un elemento determinante del processo di trasformazione delle matematiche del XVI-XVII secolo. L’autore sviluppa questo tema discutendo l’attività e le opere di tre personaggi chiave – Cardano, Castelli e Guglielmini – e proponendo il caso paradigmatico della scienza delle acque. La via delle acque mostra che l’appropriazione delle arti meccaniche contribuì a rendere inscindibile il nesso arte-matematica-natura e corroborò, in forme nuove, l’antica idea filosofica della naturalità delle matematiche. / The transformation of mathematics in the 16th and 17th centuries was partly due to the intellectual appropriation of the practical knowledge of the arts. The author explores this theme by discussing the work of three key figures – Cardano, Castelli and Guglielmini – and by examining the case of the science of water. La via delle acque shows that the appropriation of the mechanical arts strengthened the connection between mathematics, nature and the arts and gave a new impulse to the ancient philosophical idea of the naturalness of mathematics.
