Cesare Pavese è forse, fra gli scrittori della nostra storia recente, il più dimenticato. In effetti l’attualità o l’inattualità dell’opera dello scrittore piemontese è argomento di discussione ricorrente presso la critica recente, anche se in Italia, fatto salvo il vitale dibattito nato intorno “al caso Pavese” a seguito della pubblicazione di un taccuino inedito degli anni ’42 e ’43 da parte de “La Stampa”, l’interesse degli studiosi non ha avuto altre occasioni di riaccendersi e l’opera del grande scrittore è caduta in una sorta di oblio. Cosa questa che non è avvenuta e non avviene all’estero dove c’è una presenza costante di articoli sull’opera pavesiana e dove l’interesse degli studiosi è esclusivamente rivolto ai testi e agli aspetti linguistici, strutturali e antropologici. Tuttavia sembra essersi acuita la necessità di rileggere e di riesaminare l’opera di Pavese al di là del “mito” e con nuove aperture. Questo lavoro vuole assecondare questa esigenza, proponendo una lettura di tre romanzi, riuniti dall’autore sotto il titolo La bella estate, piuttosto trascurati dalla critica. E’ questo un approccio sostanzialmente semiotico che ha l’obiettivo di descrivere la poetica pavesiana partendo dai singoli testi. L’interpretazione dell’opera è basata su un’analisi dettagliata della protagonista e della sua trasformazione che si traduce nel rapporto della ragazza con il tempo, lo spazio e con gli altri personaggi.
