Abstract: Se la novità cristiana è rendere visibile ciò che visibile non è, una domanda s’impone anche allo storico: il credere, col conseguente vedere, è produttivo di conoscenze storicamente accertabili? L’interrogativo nasce dalla tradizione cristiana, ma si spinge all’essenza stessa delle fedi. Il volume presenta quattro filoni d’indagine posti criticamente in relazione e una serie di casi da esplorare: dall’apparizione di Maria a Tirano alle teste di Pietro e Paolo in Laterano, dai miracoli nell’antica gnosi alla circumambulazione islamica. / If the novelty of Christianity consists in making visible what is invisible, then a question arises for the historian: do believing and consequent seeing produce historically verifiable knowledge? The question originates from the Christian tradition but concerns the essence of faiths. The volume presents four lines of inquiry and some cases to explore: Marian apparitions, the heads of Saints Peter and Paul in the Lateran basilica, miracles in ancient Gnosticism, Islamic circumambulation.
