A compilation of three sketchbooks kept by American artist Stuart Davis (1892-1964), combined under one cover and reproduced in original size and format. 1500 copies were printed on Grifo paper in 300 line duotones by Stamperia Valdonega, Verona. New York, Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, Italy, 1986, cm.20x26, pp.circa 100, Hardcover. Three-quarters marbled paper boards with black cloth spine, gilt letters on spine, paper insert on front cover, cardboard slipcas with matching paper insert, unpaginated, each leaf is a drawing. This book is a compilation of three sketchbooks drawn by Whitney Collection artist, Stuart Davis during his extended stays in Gloucester, Massachusetts. These specific sketchbooks were created during 1932 and 1933, however, Davis made numerous visits to Gloucester from 1915 through the 1930s. Therefore, these drawings are a part of a larger body of work from those years and became the basis for various gouaches and oil paintings.
