Solitaire, je contemplais ce chef-d’œuvre mais je ne pouvais en rester là, il me fallait partager cet état de grâce que donne la beauté quand elle atteint des sommets à priori infranchissables. Le bonheur doit se transmettre et pour transmettre il faut traduire. C’est ainsi que se définirent le sujet et le but de ce livre. Les coraux d’Arcimboldo et de Mantegna, les pierres précieuses de Brueghel de Velours, les camées de Tiepolo ou les perles de Vermeer et de Rembrandt m’ont permis de garder l’enthousiasme du coup de foudre ressenti devant Le Caravage. Ainsi, pendant toute la rédaction de cet ouvrage, j’ai voulu converser avec ces génies afin de comprendre leur suprême intelligence, leur sensualité, leur humour et leurs amours obsessionnelles. Les joies impérissables qu’ils m’ont données furent su grandes qu’elles devaient obligatoirement être partagées. Je souhaite que la lecture de ce livre soit « thérapie » esthétique qui exerce une contagion curative : celle du bonheur qu’engendre la beauté.

The general topic of this volume concerns the origin, evolution, distribution, and destiny of life in the Universe. Secondly, the book explores the role that space missions may play in obtaining further insight into the question of the origin of life.
