L’Autore studia la fortuna di due traduzioni del poeta-scienziato Alessandro Marchetti (1633-1714): Della natura delle cose (basata sul De rerum natura di Lucrezio) e l’Anacreonte (basato sui carmi anacreontici). Furono condannate entrambe per il materialismo epicureo e per l’amore greco, come risulta dalla ricca documentazione inedita, pubblicata in appendice, che proviene dall’Archivio della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, Città del Vaticano. / Costa examines the fortune of two verse translations by Alessandro Marchetti (1633-1714), a distinguished scientist and an elegant poet, who is considered a minor Italian classic: Della natura delle cose (based on Lucretius’s On the Nature of Things) and Anacreonte (based on the Anacreontics). Both of them were condemned by the Roman Catholic Church for their Epicurean materialism and sexual perversion, as appears from the documents published in the appendix, that come from the Archive of the Holy Office (now the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith).
