The present volume is a sequel to the author’s La Natura Morta Italiana [The Italian Still-life] published in 1984; it is intended both to integrate with, and supplement this earlier publication. Salerno examines the new studies issued on the subject between 1984 and 1989 giving particular attention to subjects such as Carravaggio, Strozzi and Paolini, as well as touching on various problematic issues. In addition to presenting previously unknown artists, identified by the discovery of their hitherto unseen signatures, the author dedicates specific chapters to the Roman School including Nuzzi, Pace, Abraham Brueghel, Berentz and Spadino as well as to the Neapolitan Onofrio Loth. The volume comprises approximately 200 pages with over 100 colour illustrations and numerous black and white reproductions.
