Il libro intende seguire la diffusione di un testo impugnato da ingegneri quanto da umanisti per la costituzione di un sapere tecnico sotto l’insegna del ‘ritorno dei filosofi antichi’. / 1575: just posthumous, Federico Commandino’s Latin version of Pneumatiká by Erone Alessandrino is printed in Urbino. The text’s extraordinary fortune originates from here stretching along the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries and intersecting with the emergence of mechanics as a discipline claiming its own unique status. The book attempts to track the dissemination of a text which, handled by engineers and humanists alike, established a new technical knowledge under the banner of the ‘return of ancient philosophers’.
