Abstract: Forse nessun'altra regione italiana ha un numero così elevato di castelli come il Trentino. Posto nel cuore della regione alpina, l'importanza strategica della sua posizione geografi ca ha fatto sì che il Trentino nel Medioevo si popolasse di numerose fortezze edifi cate soprattutto per esigenze militari. A partire dal 1500 molti castelli hanno subito lavori di adattamento estetico in base ai gusti del tempo e del casato, rendendo così possibile la diffusione di nuovi modelli architettonici in certi casi completamente diversi dalla struttura originaria.Il castello non è però solo documento storico e architettonico, ma è anche un luogo d'arte privilegiato che non manca di offrire al suo interno suggestive proposte artistiche già a partire dall'epoca medioevale.Arte, storia e architettura si fondono quindi in questo libro dando vita a un percorso immaginario per scoprire tutto il fascino dei castelli trentini. Per rendere questa ricerca il più chiara ed esaustiva possibile, nel volume sono stati selezionati 43 castelli, presentati nella parte fotografi ca con una o più tavole a colori di grande formato e, nella parte fi nale, con una scheda che comprende l'indicazione geografi ca, alcune immagini d'epoca, piante e planimetrie generali che permettono una migliore comprensione della struttura architettonica di ogni edifi cio. La lettura del percorso è inoltre facilitata da una cartina che illustra la dislocazione dei vari castelli rispetto al territorio dell'odierna provincia di Trento.
