I due si incontrano nell'ospedale dove sono ricoverati i genitori di entrambi: il padre di lui morente e la madre di lei, una donna sopravvissuta all'Olocausto che non è mai riuscita ad esprimere il proprio amore per la figlia. In questo tragico contesto sfocia fragile e delicato l'amore tra i due protagonisti. Sullo sfondo c'è il paesaggio umano dell'Israele di oggi: la generazione sopravvissuta ai campi di sterminio, ma interiormente spezzata; la generazione nata in Israele, dura e pragmatica, e gli ebrei che vivono fuori da Israele ma che mantengono comunque rapporti strettissimi con quella terra.
