Magic, one of the central themes of the Renaissance and the early Modern Age, is the object of these essays written by Italian and foreign scholars. A good deal of twentieth-century historiography has been characterized by this theme which needs to be redefined properly today. Consider for instance the relationship between magic and Hermetism, often mistaken for each other, and that between magic and science, a crucial point in understanding the origins of modernity.
