The book explores the different forms of theatre and show in Aragonese Naples, detecting their unifying festive dimension and their political and diplomatic worth. The study analyses Iacopo Sannazaro’s first farce and Pier Antonio Caracciolo’s complex allegorical farce Magico. Rogieri da Piacenza’s poem Lo Balzino represents the enigmatic genre of the «intramesa» and offers a possibility of linking it to the allegorical pageants and tableaux vivants made for entrance sceneries.
