È un obiettivo cui ci si può al massimo avvicinare. Ma è questo il problema principale: arrivare a fare qualcosa istintivamente. Quanto poi a spiegare l’istinto, la questione è troppo complessa. Osservando la trasformazione della pittura nel corso dei secoli, è legittimo chiedersi se di secolo in secolo non si trasformi anche l’istinto, se non sia modificato da tutto quel che si vede, da tutto quel che si sente. Non so bene. Quel che posso dire è che l’istinto si impone. Si potrebbe forse spiegare la maniera con cui un’immagine viene creata, perché è una questione di tecnica. Le tecniche cambiano, e si può parlare di pittura scrivendo una sorta di storia delle tecniche pittoriche. Quel che però fa la pittura, l’elemento inalterabile, il soggetto della pittura, quello che la pittura è, non si può spiegare. Credo sia impossibile.
