Abstract: Uno strumento agile e aggiornato per chi voglia avvicinarsi all'opera di Piero della Francesca, artista tra i più noti del rinascimento italiano. Ogni opera del maestro, dal Battesimo di Cristo alla Natività conservate nella National Gallery, viene presentata con immagini a piena pagina e attentamente indagata tanto dal punto di vista storico quanto da quello stilistico, senza trascurare la fortuna critica nei secoli. Particolare interesse viene riservato allo splendido ciclo di affreschi con la Leggenda della Vera Croce nella basilica di San Francesco ad Arezzo, vero capolavoro del maestro. L'autore, responsabile dei restauri della cappella, rende noti nel suo studio i risultati degli interventi su metà della superficie pittorica pubblicando immagini inedite degli affreschi dopo la pulitura.Aided by a wealth of images, this clear-cut and updated book is intended as a useful tool for furthering one's understanding of the works of Piero della Francesca, an artist with a complex personality who is often not easily and immediately comprehended. Each of the master's works is discussed from an in-depth and well-documented historic and stylistic stance, without disregarding the successful critiques of the works through the ages. Each work is depicted in a full-page illustration. Particular attention is given to the splendid fresco cycle portraying La leggenda della vera Croce, the artist's true masterpiece. Information on the restoration work undertaken on half of the fresco's surface is provided and this book includes previously unpublished pictures of the frescoes following the restoration work.
