A large apparatus of unpublished documents highlights the leading role these craftsmen played in the development of organ building in the 15th century, during the fascinating transition from Gothic to Renaissance models.

The orphan girls housed in these institutions performed in the churches attached to the four hospitals. What impact did this musical activity have on the buildings? The volume traces the architectural history of the four buildings in order to identify the changes imposed by the demands of musical performance at particularly significant moments in their evolution.
